Glossary Detail

GHG

Greenhouse gas. It is a gas that absorbs and emits radiant energy, causing the greenhouse effect (warming that results when the atmosphere traps heat radiation from Earth toward space).

CO₂e

Metric measure that is used to compare emissions from various GHG on the basis of their global warming potential by converting amounts of other gases to the equivalent amount of CO₂.

DRI/EAF

Steel production from direct reduction of iron (DRI) followed by processing in an electric arc furnace (EAF).

CCUS

Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage.

LCOE

Levelized Cost of Energy. Cost of building and operating an energy-generating asset per unit of total electricity generated over an assumed lifetime.

MWh

Megawatt-hour. Unit of measure of electric energy.

Green Hydrogen

Made by using clean electricity from renewable energy technologies to electrolyse water.

Water Electrolysis

Process of using electricity to decompose water into oxygen and hydrogen gas.

Blue Hydrogen

Produced using natural gas but with carbon emissions being captured and stored, or reused.

Grey Hydrogen

Produced from fossil fuels without emissions capture.
