Glossary Detail

Turquoise hydrogen

Uses a process called methane pyrolysis to produce hydrogen and solid carbon (no CO₂ emissions).

LCOH

Levelized Cost of Hydrogen.

Li-ion battery

Lithium-ion batteries. Battery technology that uses lithium ions as a key component of its electrochemistry. Commonly used for portable electronics and electric vehicles.

LCE

Lithium Carbonate Equivalent. It is the unit of measure for lithium quantities and it is referenced to lithium carbonate.

ICE

Internal Combustion Engine.

PEV

Plug Electric Vehicles. Electric vehicles that are plugged in and charged to the power grid. PEVs include BEVs and PHEVs.

BEV

Battery Electric Vehicle. Type of electric vehicle that exclusively uses chemical energy stored in rechargeable battery packs.

PHEV

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle. Hybrid vehicle that plugs into the grid. PHEVs have smaller batteries than BEVs.

HEV

Hybrid Electric Vehicle. Vehicles that do not plug into the grid and have even smaller batteries than PHEVs, powered by a combination of an ICE and electric propulsion system.

FCEV

Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle. Electric vehicle that uses a fuel cell, to power its onboard electric motor. Fuel cells generate electricity using oxygen from the air and hydrogen.
